Victoria College Examinations
Victoria College was the first examination board to recognise electronic instruments and the first to offer examinations in Electronic Instrument Playing up to Diploma level.
We take the instrument seriously and believe it is a very effective and economical medium for introducing self-made music to young people as well as adult learners. Indeed, our examinations start at the very First Steps level, and there are four Introductory Grades below Grade One.
Emphasis is placed on enjoyment of music and encouraging candidates whatever their abilities. This is not to “dumb down” requirements, but examiners are trained to recognise the effort that candidates have put into preparing their work.
The usual Grades 1 to 8 cover a sound educational development of skill and understanding. A range of five Medal Award examinations cater for players who prefer to concentrate on performance of pieces rather than scales and technical tests.
A wide variety of diplomas is available for both teachers and performers.
Set pieces include familiar songs as well as specially composed work including a Bollywood collection.
Tutor books are available travelling through lesson plans, teachers and pupils working together on an attractive selection of new tunes and arrangements that help improve playing competence and confidence. Written Theory exercises are also included designed specifically for keyboard players. Activities are specifically designed to make learning fun with motivational tick charts included at the end of each lesson. A page is also included for teacher and pupils to write in their own comments.
A network of examination centres exists but we are also happy to send examiners to teachers' schools or homes where viable. Further details are available at our website:
